Richard Osborne Electrical Services - Local Electrician - Save Energy.

There are many ways in which to save money on your electricity bills, you could go for the more expensive route of installing solar panels or start with the basics of trying to save with what you already have, ideas such as:

Installing timers on water heaters.

Make sure that your hot water tank is properly insulated to ensure that it holds its heat for as long as possible.

Installing movement sensors on lights.

Fitting energy efficient lighting. LED light fittings can now produce the equivalent light of a 50watt bulb but only uses approximately  7watts of energy.

A lot of lamps (Bulbs) are now being manufactured as LED lamps, which although are a bit more expensive, in the long term can save a lot of money.

Its possible to get day/night bulbs which will only come on at night and go off when it gets light. so if your lights are prone to being left on then you can be sure that it will go off when it gets light.

Only fill the kettle with enough water for the drinks you are going to make. It is possible to buy small kettles which only hold enough water for 2/3 cups, hence makes sure that you only boil enough water as required. It is now possible to buy eco-kettles.

Remote control sockets can be installed where it is not easy to switch appliances off overnight, ensuring the appliances do not stay in standby.
